Chesters Walled Garden is a wonderful example of traditional and modern planting combined in a naturalistic style and set in a 2acre 18th Century walled oasis on Hadrian's Wall. Organically run with diverse wildlife, it has lovely open views over the Tyne valley. There are 3 National Collections (Thyme, Marjoram and Burnet), a knot garden, magnificent flower borders, an exceptional herb collection, ponds and a Roman Garden (the site of a Roman road actually crosses the garden!) Planted for interest all season long.

Hadrian's Wall and other English Heritage Sites
Hadrian’s Wall is the most important monument built by the Romans in Britain. Internationally celebrated as a World Heritage Site, it is the best known frontier in the entire Roman Empire, and stands as a reminder of past glories of one of the worlds greatest civilizations. Being there still invokes a sense of standing at the edge of the world, imagining what life would have been like at the forefront of Roman Rule in Britain. English Heritage own numerous properties along its length.
